Art – Gargoyles from Drawing to Sculpture

In Year 6, we explored gargoyles through a creative cross‑curricular project. We read Night of the Gargoyles to inspire our ideas, then learned about the history and purpose of gargoyles.

In art lessons, we sketched our own designs and used clay techniques to shape, join and add texture.

We thought carefully about character, expression and symbolism to create unique gargoyle sculptures that brought our ideas to life.

History – Visit to Bentley Priory

Year 6 pupils enjoyed an enriching visit to Bentley Priory Museum as part of their World War II studies. They discovered the important role the site played as the headquarters of RAF Fighter Command during the Battle of Britain.

Pupils took part in an engaging workshop titled “Leadership, Bravery and Technology: Object Handling.” During the session, they handled real and replica WWII objects, learned how pilots, WAAFs, and commanders worked together, and explored the significance of early radar and communication systems in Britain’s defence.

DT – Make Do and Mend Textiles Project

Using the “Make Do and Mend” theme in their DT lessons, Year 6 recycled materials such as fabric, stuffing and buttons to make soft toys. Some of them cut their gloves to add details to their teddies.

Science – Evolution and Inheritance Workshop

Year 6 pupils enjoyed an engaging workshop on evolution, and inheritance led by a qualified palaeontologist.

They examined fossil specimens, created a timeline of life on Earth, and learned how species adapt through natural selection.

Geography Fieldwork – How is population impacting our local area?

Year 6 pupils recently took part in a local fieldwork trip to investigate how population levels impact traffic, noise, and litter in our community.

Pupils conducted traffic surveys by tallying the different types of public transportation, such as buses and cars, to explore links between population density, noise levels, and pollution.

Art – Graphic Design

Year 6 explored the basics of graphic design such as layout, geometrical shapes and vivid colours to create unique Bauhaus inspired posters.

They went on to explore a variety of typography styles which helped them redesign the front cover of their favourite books.

Art Topic: Activism in Art – Frida Kahlo & Mexican Skull Art

Year 6 have been exploring how art can be used to share ideas, feelings and messages about the world around us. Inspired by artists such as Frida Kahlo and Omaid Sharifi, pupils created vibrant artwork influenced by Mexican skull art and Day of the Dead traditions. Through drawing, painting and sketchbook work, children developed their skills in colour, tone, shading and composition while expressing their own ideas about identity, culture and activism.

Mini Medics Workshop

Year 6 had an exciting and informative visit from the Mini Medics team! During the workshop, pupils learnt important first aid skills, including how to make a sling using a triangular bandage, treat a bleeding wound, perform CPR and use a defibrillator.

The children showed teamwork, listened carefully and practised these life-saving skills with confidence and enthusiasm.

It was a fun and valuable experience that helped our pupils learn how to stay calm and help others in an emergency.
