Admissions

Admissions from Reception to Year 6

As we are a maintained school, admissions from Reception to Year 6 are controlled by the Local Authority, Hertfordshire County Council. If you would like to apply for a place at our school for your child, you can do so via the Hertfordshire County Council Website. 

Alternatively, you can ask for a paper application form from the Admissions and Transport team at Hertfordshire County Council and return it to them.

Highwood Primary Nursery Admissions

We are delighted that you are considering Highwood Primary School for your child.

We are passionate about Early Years Education and work hard to provide a safe and stimulating environment for our children to play and learn, building excellent relationships with parents.

We have one intake each year in September and places are allocated according to the schools’ admission criteria (see link to Admissions Policy below).  For Nursery starting in September 2026, we welcome children whose birth date falls within the range: 01/09/2022 to 31/08/2023, subject to availability. 

Children must attend either five mornings, five afternoons or five full days a week.

Session choices are:

30-hour funded.
Sessions run from 8:45am until 14:45 or 15:15pm (additional half hour charged at £3.00).
To check if your child is eligible for 30 hour funding, details can be found using the following link: https://www.gov.uk/30-hours-free-childcare.Please note that it is the responsibility of parents to check their eligibility and provide us the code in order to be considered for a 30-hour place. The deadline for applying for the 30-hour code is 31st August 2026. Eligibility is reviewed termly and should a child fall out of eligibility during any term, fees will become payable.
30-hour private.
As the morning session is funded by the government, you can opt to pay privately for the afternoon session, which runs from either 11:45am until 14:45 (£18) or 15:15pm (£21) until the end of the normal school day.
5 mornings – sessions run from 8:45am until 11:45am
5 afternoons – sessions run from 12:15pm until 3:15pm

Deadline to apply to your chosen school/s Sunday 1st March 2026
Offer letters sent by schools to parents/carers Monday 16th March 2026 (via email)
Deadline to accept place and return paperwork to chosen school Friday 27th March 2026 at 9:00am
